About me & my dream

I am Miranda and as an illustrator I focus mainly on creating picture books. My big dream is to fill a whole bookshelf with books that contain my illustrations!

And you know what, I'm already making pretty good progress, if I say so myself…

How it started…
Ever since I was in primary school, I, Miranda Vries , have been scribbling cheerful figures and small animals all over my school notebooks.

More than 19 years ago I made my first painting - Art on a Canvas 😉 - for my sister's newborn son, which became a whole collection for all my friends.
〰️
I now draw every day and my illustrations can be found in many more places. Think of various picture books, on the unique DoekieKunst Puzzle and a complete Goose Board and then of course the many postcards, because real mail is really so much fun to receive 🤗.

Conclusion… drawing has become an indispensable part of my daily life and it makes me very happy 🥰!
How I work…
At the moment I mainly work digitally, that is… I draw with my drawing pencil directly on the screen of my iPad.

I love to use the endless possibilities that digital working brings - without getting my fingers dirty.
For example, I can color my illustrations with printing colors right away. This certainly ensures less surprises and stress when you first get the printed book in your hands 😅.

I love working in (countless) layers, although it is sometimes difficult to determine when you are done. Because… my illustrations are not always that calm anyway 🤪.
〰️
But by trying out a lot and critically examining your own work, it becomes easier and easier to determine when something is ready.
The most important thing, however, is: do a lot and practice, practice & practice!
Where I work…
I work almost every day at home at my sit/stand desk with a view of the garden. Of course with our 2 cats nearby, who now know that they are not allowed to play with my drawing pencil 🤪.

Because… drawing with birds in the garden, purring cats on the chair next to me, a mug of coffee ☕️ on my desk and my day can't get any better!
〰️
But I also go to a random & inspiring location in the area once a week to work there. That is not only fun for the change, I also meet other ZZP'ers there. Definitely nice to chat and share experiences!
